CLEAR CREEK - The Heart of the Rippling World
By Judson D. McGehee
This collection of Judson D. McGehee's nature essays explores the diverse shapes of nature amid the equally diverse scenery of wild Arizona, captured in vivid detail by the author's rich and poetic prose.
Dr. McGehee taught for thirty years at Northern Arizona University, where he drew from his lifelong love of books and the outdoors to inspire his students in English and Creative Writing. The essays featured in Clear Creek were written for his weekly column, "Northland Nature" which ran in the Arizona Daily Sun for over a decade.
Clear Creek was a 2016 Viola Award Nominee for Excellence in Storytelling.

THE LANGUAGE OF WATER AND GRASS
By Judson D. McGehee
The poems collected in The Language of Water and Grass, written over a span of sixty years, form a tapestry displaying the poet’s evolution and varying influences, from the romanticism of William Wordsworth and the philosophy of Henry David Thoreau, to the wonder of Mary Oliver and the mysticism of W.S. Merwin.
By turns contemplative and exultant, McGehee’s poetry explores the most central of human preoccupations—our relationship to the natural world:
“Philosophers, theologians, forgive me,
if I, through arches of socket bone,
recognize affinities
with arched and ruined stone.”
— “On The Trail To Rainbow Bridge”
"For lovers of nature poetry and the inspiring landscape of Northern Arizona, Judson McGehee's collected poems are a welcome gift. Keats wrote that the earth is never dead. You can still hear its voice and lyrics when you walk alone in nature. The Arizona earth offered its music to McGehee's imagination, and he captured its song in these inviting poems." — Allen Woodman
“I traveled to Flagstaff in the eighties and found a used Daily Sun in Tim Macy's Café. The best writing in the paper was a column called “Northland Nature”. I knew I had to read Judson McGehee again and subscribed to the paper. His writing solidified my longing for Northern Arizona and my move to Flagstaff. Judson McGehee brought me home. I am eternally grateful." — Mary Sojourner
***Forthcoming: Plum Rains: Stories from Mid-Century America, a collection of short fiction by Judson D. McGehee.***
ABOUT THE PRESS
The mission of Glen Lyon Press is to publish quality books in which eloquent, well-crafted language is an integral part of the reading experience. Because many of the decisions made in publishing today are based on an obligation to turn a profit as quickly as possible, there is a need for independent publishers who value beautiful writing and timeless books. Whether prose or poetry, fiction or nonfiction, we want to offer books that will be found in libraries and treasured by book lovers for generations to come, rather than overnight best sellers that cater to a current fad. Rather than ‘page turners’, we want to produce books whose pages the reader will want to linger over as they read and reread their favorite passages.
All of our titles will be available in both paperback and e-book formats.

ALNIM BOOKS

Alnim Books is our speculative fiction imprint. Our philosophy is that while speculative fiction has qualities that set it apart, due to the freedom that allows authors to explore the human experience from fresh perspectives and through imaginative premises, there is no reason it should be seen as less important than purely realistic fiction, or lacking in literary merit. We feel that good fiction that fits under the umbrella of fantasy or science fiction should receive the same respect, and be judged by the same standards, as any other type of literature.
